The I that is the beginning and the end | Talks from Tamborine Mountain 1986 - March

The talk opens by establishing “I” as the ultimate truth—once attributed to prophets and god-like figures—now available as direct inner responsibility, not an external deity. The message: cease blaming conditions; be I, and the delight of life is realised.

EPISODE NOTES

Speaking from Tamborine Mountain, Barry frames this as the first of a series and sets the keynote: “I” is the beginning and end. Scriptural “I am” statements are cited to show this perennial truth, while noting the world’s intolerance for anyone who demonstrates “I am the way and the life”. Humanity once lacked the perception to bear direct responsibility for I, so the I was projected as an external God. Now, after much suffering, perception has deepened: the I within you is realisable as the one and only I.

He contrasts the “object of living” (money, partners, success) with the “purpose of life” (the delight of life). Repetition of living experience ripens perception, revealing I has no problems, in contrast to the person. When you don’t know what to do, do nothing within: feel the delight of life and let the body act as needed.

He concludes: stop turmoil within, and life abounds without. No priests, no excuses. Paradise/Nirvana is here as the I that you are. The teaching is a pointer to what is already within.

Outline – There is only one I in the universe, What's the object of living? What's the purpose of life? What do you do when you don't know what to do? The sun of yourself and what I am.
