Breaking identification with the body

The talk overturns the core delusion 'I am the body', shows how acknowledgement feeds either illusion or reality, and gives a practical entry through pure sensation to being, where intelligence—not mind—sees straight.

'The spiritual life is about realizing we are not the body, or I am not the body.'

'The only thing lovers have to say to each other is, 'I love you. You are beautiful.''

EPISODE NOTES

Barry Long exposes existence as a system that perpetuates itself by drawing attention to body and world. What is constantly acknowledged grows on us. Identifying love with bodies ensures inevitable suffering when bodies depart. The remedy is not another belief but a total life of truth that stops feeding the unreal.

The working tool is depersonalised intelligence that looks without interpreting. By ceasing aimless thinking and personalising, attention can return to the origin of the body as pure sensation. Holding the formless whole-body sensation one begins to break identification with 'I am the body' and being is revealed, the attribute-less 'me'.

Consciousness is still and does not move; awareness is movement. One can live in the senses while resting in consciousness, provided thoughts and emotions are not allowed to intervene. Responsibility for emotion, straight speech, and doing only what is necessary complete the practical stance.
