During spiritual awakening and as the love of the divine began to flower, Barry Long, like so many others before and since, sought to express his experience in songs and poems. Some of his verses are light-hearted and joyous. In others he was endeavouring to reveal his own self-realisation, as it was happening. Some were composed for people close to him, as personal teachings or in gratitude. Others are metaphysical examinations of a particular aspect of truth that he wanted to illustrate.

Later in life he recorded his songs and poems on cassette; along with commentaries on them. The songs were also professionally set to music and recorded.

The Poems and songs are now newly available as double CD and separately as MP3. The book 'Where the Spirit speaks to its Own' contains all the Poems and Songs text.
